On Wednesday Nights, we've agreed that:
-
Listening and taking turns is essential
-
Everyone has something unique to offer
-
Everyone benefits through regular
participation
-
Spending time together is a necessity not a
luxury
About SIGs
Wednesday Nights means participating in small discussion
groups (SIG).
Meeting in small interest groups builds the community of
trust necessary to meet the many business and personal challenges we each face. This is
where we get to learn what's important to one another, ask great questions and share
information.
Groups are small, just 2 to 8 people including a leader.
Sessions last just over one hour. Everyone participates, everyone listens. Lots of safety
-- no criticism, no interruptions, no veiled attacks. Lots of helpful information,
opportunity sharing and practice in saying what matters most to you. Each group has a
leader who is committed to this process.
Topics are chosen at the planning meetings. Anyone can
suggest an idea or volunteer to lead a group. Some groups continue on for several
months. Others meet just for one evening. Topics are posted on the web and e-mailed in
advance to community members. Generally there are business, technical or personal growth
subjects offered.
Leaders draw out the thinking of all the group members on
a given topic. As each person talks, they have the full attention of their small group.
Does this mean that everyone agrees with one another? Hardly! It does mean that we
value differences and believe that listening is as essential as talking when thinking
deeply on subjects that matter to each of us.
Everyone then reconvenes at the end of an hour and each
leader summarizes the discussion on their topic. Then it's time for to put a few chairs
away, say good-bye and take that short but steady ride down the elevator.
